Former Heaven, Latter Heaven, and Kangjie's Changes
先天後天與康節之易
先天者伏羲之易也。後天者文王之易也。皇極經世者，康節之易也。
The Former Heaven arrangement is Fuxi's Changes. The Latter Heaven arrangement is King Wen's Changes. The Huangji Jingshi is Kangjie's [Shao Yong's] Changes.
The Subtlety of the Observing Things Chapters
觀物篇之精微
觀物篇為主，言聲意精微，如繫辭。解雜然從錯之，以理既不通，究之以數亦不合。
The Observing Things chapters are the core. Their expression of sound and meaning is profound and subtle, like the Xici Commentary. Mixed and interwoven, examining them through principle alone does not work; investigating them through number alone does not match either.

經世之數
經世之數，元會運世之天。物之動植有十二萬九千六百。
The numbers of Ordering the World: Yuan-Hui-Yun-Shi of Heaven. Moving and growing things number 129,600.
The Purpose of Indexing the Hidden
索隱之目的
行成於邵子之學用力頗深，以伯溫之解於家數未稱其義，推衍日索隱。
Xingcheng applied great effort to Master Shao's learning, finding that Bowen's explanations were inadequate for the numerical system's meaning, and so he extended and investigated, 'indexing the hidden.'
The Extreme of Conciseness
簡要之極
不過萬一千六百餘言，而天地之物之象之數之理之否泰消長損益盡備其間。自六經以來，諸子百家之作原道析理，未有如此之簡要也。
In no more than 11,600-odd words, the phenomena of Heaven and Earth -- things, images, numbers, principles, obstruction and peace, waxing and waning, loss and gain -- are all thoroughly encompassed within it. Since the Six Classics, among all the works of the hundred schools analyzing the Way and dissecting principle, none has been as concise and essential as this.
