擇日之義
舉事無細大必擇其日辰，義歟？曰敬天也。
All undertakings, whether great or small, require choosing the right day. What is the principle? It is reverence for Heaven.
The Patterns of Heaven and Earth Are Not the Origin of Fortune
天地之數非吉凶所從生
或問時犀忌日：此天地之數也，非吉凶所從生也。夫知其為天地之數，固修身者所當順也；知其非吉凶所從生，則一切拘牽謬悠之說具廢，而所為順之避之者亦必有道矣。
Someone asked about calendar taboos: 'These are the patterns of Heaven and Earth, not the origin of auspiciousness and inauspiciousness.' Knowing they are Heaven-Earth patterns, the self-cultivating person should follow them. But knowing they do not originate fortune or misfortune, all rigid and absurd theories are discarded -- and yet the proper way of following and avoiding must still have its rationale.
