五行生剋制化

寅卯辰屬木,巳午未屬火,申酉戌屬金,亥子丑屬水。凡看數者,先取生剋廟墓庫,次看星辰落在何宮。有正照之星,有拱夾照之星,然正照不如拱照,合照不如夾。

Yin-Mao-Chen belong to Wood; Si-Wu-Wei belong to Fire; Shen-You-Xu belong to Metal; Hai-Zi-Chou belong to Water. When reading a chart: first determine generation, overcoming, Temple, Tomb, and Treasury; then examine which palace each star falls in. There are directly illuminating stars and flanking-illuminating stars. However, direct illumination is less effective than lateral illumination, and combined illumination is less effective than flanking.

凡一日之間自卯至申六時爲陽,自酉至寅六時爲陰。帝星宜獨立,最喜坐長生旺之鄉。看命不過明生剋制化及時數中議論最精微,斷法在人心活變。

Within a single day, the six hours from Mao to Shen are Yang; the six hours from You to Yin are Yin. The Emperor Star prefers to stand alone and most delights in sitting in the Birth or Flourishing positions. Fate reading is nothing more than understanding generation, overcoming, control, and transformation — the most refined discussion lies within the numbers. The art of judgment lies in the person's flexible, living mind.

看命總論

凡人立身安命之後,最宜先看身命。次看財帛、宮吉凶與生剋。命宮有正曜,三方有吉星臨廟拱照合,三方有吉,則爲中格。命宮星辰背陷,三方有吉,或上方有吉星相伴,則爲中格。苦命無吉星;反有凶煞、化忌、無祿、落陷或空劫,終爲成敗天折論。

After establishing one's position and determining the Fate Palace, the most important step is to first examine the Fate and Body Palaces. Next, examine the Wealth Palace and assess the fortune and misfortune through generation and overcoming. If the Fate Palace has a major star with auspicious stars in Temple dignity illuminating from the Three Harmonies: it is a middle-grade fate. If the Fate Palace stars are in detriment but the Three Harmonies have auspicious support or upper stars as companions: still a middle-grade fate. A bitter fate with no auspicious stars, instead encountering malefics, Hua Ji, no salary, detriment, or Void-Robbery: it is ultimately assessed as failure and early death.

紫微帝座,生爲厚重之容。武曲乃爲剛毅之操。天同之體,貌秀清。太陽面方圓滿。天機乃至剛不至毅之資。大陰聰明清奇。天梁穩重,長鬚。七殺目大凶,心狠好念。破軍聰明機巧,多學多能。

Ziwei, the Emperor's Throne, produces a dignified and substantial appearance. Wuqu produces a resolute and steadfast character. Tiantong's physique is refined and pure. Taiyang has a square, full face. Tianji provides ultimate firmness without rigidity. Taiyin is intelligent and unusually elegant. Tianliang is steady and dignified, with a long beard. Qisha has large, fierce eyes and a cruel, willful heart. Pojun is clever and resourceful, widely learned and multi-talented.

斗數發微論

斗數準繩。命居生旺定富貴,各有所宜;身坐空亡論枯。大陰火鈴同位,反成十分。羊在身命之位,却受孤單。巨門乃爲祿蔭,天機臨命居廟不凶,專能爲福。

The Doushu Standard. The Fate Palace in Birth or Flourishing positions determines wealth and nobility, each having its proper use; the Body sitting in Void is assessed as barren. Taiyin with Fire and Bell Stars in the same position: it becomes fully [effective]. Qingyang (Ram) in the Fate or Body position: it suffers isolation. Jumen is actually the Salary-Blessing; Tianji presiding over the Fate Palace in Temple dignity is not inauspicious — it specializes in producing blessings.

星垣論

紫微帝座,以輔弼爲佐。星拱斗而好生;擎羊在酉而用殺。寅乃木之旺地,加水到寅之所,二者不可偏廢。天機到寅爲旺地,巨門水到三陽交泰之時,水盛陽有用之源流。

Ziwei, the Emperor's Throne, takes Zuofu and Youbi as its assistants. Stars facing the Dipper favor life; Qingyang (Ram) in You exercises killing. Yin is Wood's flourishing position; adding Water to Yin — the two cannot be neglected. Tianji reaching Yin is a flourishing position. When Jumen (Water) reaches the time of Three Yangs in harmonious exchange: Water is abundant, Yang has a useful source.
