經 Classic Text

Translation

Wu Wang (Without Falseness), Zhen below, Qian above.

Wu Wang: Sublime Beginning, Success, Benefit, Correctness. If one is not correct there will be calamity; it is not beneficial to have a place to go.

疏 Kong Yingda's Subcommentary

Translation

The Correct Meaning states: Wu Wang means that the firm serves as the inner ruler, moving and able to be strong. Governing those below in this way, none among the myriad things dare engage in deceit, falsehood, or delusion; all conduct themselves according to solid principle.

' As for 'if one is not correct there will be calamity, it is not beneficial to have a place to go': since things are already without falseness, one should proceed by the correct Way.

If one does not follow the correct Way, then there will be calamity and disaster, and it will not be beneficial to have a place to go.
