About This Text
《卜筮正宗》was compiled by Wang Hongxu (王洪緒) in 1709 and is the most commonly cited technical manual for Liu Yao (六爻) divination. The text systematizes the coin-method hexagram casting tradition into a complete operational framework: Eight Palace (八宮) hexagram classification, Najia (納甲) stem-branch line assignments, Six Relatives (六親) derivation, Useful Spirit (用神) selection by question category, World/Response (世應) line placement, Flying/Hidden Spirit (飛伏) analysis, monthly and daily strength assessment, and applied divination across all major life categories. Juan 1-2 cover foundational tables and formulas; Juan 3 presents the Eighteen Discourses on core theory; Juan 4 provides Wang Hongxu's commentary on Liu Bowen's Golden Strategy (黃金策); Juan 5-12 contain the categorized Golden Strategy chapters with case studies spanning weather, national affairs, destiny, marriage, childbirth, illness, medicine, agriculture, commerce, lawsuits, travel, and more; Juan 13-14 present eighteen diagnostic questions with worked hexagram examples from the author's own practice. This edition was not included in the Siku Quanshu; it is a commercial woodblock print from the well-known Qing publisher Saoye Shanfang.
